Coding my first Flappy Bird Game
- Are there any non-math-related opportunities for integrating coding and computational thinking into your grade level’s curriculum?
I think that coding can very well be integrated into other aspects of the curriculum and subjects other than only math. When looking at a grade 2 level, students would be able to do smaller projects for English or Art Class through the use of Scratch Jr. By using Scratch Jr even smaller kids are able to learn how to code characters to make them interact and move and could create a story with this. They’re also able to create digital art projects through the use of coding.
- Discuss how gameplay can be used as a tool to make traditionally less popular topics more engaging for some learners
Gameplay can change the original concept of a class and make it more engaging for students. By implementing gameplay into the classroom environment, teachers can create a trial and error environment where students can practice without having the stress of getting the wrong answer. This would be great for practicing math problems, since it gives the student immediate feedback and unlike passive learning through lecture, gameplay immerses students in active problem-solving.
