Weekly Reflections Topic 10- Guest Lecture

I found Brittany’s lecture to be very informative on the topic of classroom management and that she provided some great tips and tricks for newer teachers. One key takeaway that I took from the lecture and will be implementing into my classrooms was the morning start. By starting off your morning checking in with each kid’s emotional state it creates a safe space of awareness and builds emotional regulation in the classroom. I also really like the colour chart routine because it allows each child to identify their emotions in a non-verbal way. Another tip that was really helpful was managing classroom transitions as it is usually something that most teacher do innately without explaining. By implementing a transition song or creating a certain routine (like yoga/meditation first thing in the morning) it creates a smoother flowing transition between subjects and provides students with routine and certainty. Overall, I found her morning start tips to be very helpful in creating classroom management.
